Welcome to the home of the "Family and Friends of the 34th and 35th Battalions."

This group was founded after the 90th anniversary commemorative service of the Battle of Passchendaele and the death of Captain Clarence Jeffries VC and 112 Hunter Valley men on 12th October 1917. The service was held at St Luke’s Anglican Church, Wallsend on Friday 12th October 2007.

Membership to the "Family and Friends of the 34th and 35th Battalions" is free and open to all family members and friends of men who were in the 34th or 35th Infantry Battalions during the First World War of 1914-1918, and other interested persons.

This message board is the place to ask questions about the 34th and 35th Battalions.

So, if you have a question to ask or an item of interest you wish to share with others, then this is the place to do it.

Hi,

Many years ago I was given a portrait of a soldier for a gift. Recently, I contacted the AWM Canberra who advised
the young soldier is of the 4th Division, 35th battalion, a Lewis Gunner and was injured probably at Poziers. I am trying
to give a name to my unknown soldier. I've been told soldiers injured were repatriated in Britan before returing to duty.
Does anyone have any photos of soldiers of this battalion that I may view?  I would appreciate any assistance or guidance
to help me in my search.  thank you for reading my post

Unfortunatley the 35th Battalion was in the 3rd Division, not the 4th and were not at Pozieres in July/August 1916.

Further to my previous post, can you describe the shape of the colour patch on the soldier's sleeve?
If it is oval shaped then he was in a battalion of the 3rd Division.
The 4th Division units' colour patches were circular.

Hi,Thank you for your response. It is the 45th Battalion, not 35th.
On his tunic there is around circle, one half light blue (the top half) the lower being dark blue.
I really appreciate your help.
