Welcome to the home of the "Family and Friends of the Hunter Valley Prisoners of War." This group was founded at the Newcastle Ex-Prisoners of War Association's 65th anniversary of the Fall of Singapore commemoration service held at Hamilton RSL Club on Sunday 11th February 2007. Membership to the "Family and Friends of the Hunter Valley Prisoners of War" is open to all descendents of Prisoners of War from the First World War of 1914-1918, the Second World War of 1939-1945 and the Korean War of 1950-1953, and anyone with an interest in our wartime prisoners of war. This message board will be your first stop to be kept up to date with the commemoration activities of the Newcastle Ex-Prisoner of War Association, which are held three times per year - on the Sunday before 15th February for the Fall of Singapore anniversaries; the Sunday before 8th May for VE Day (Victory in Europe Day) which marked the end of the Second World War in Europe in 1945; and the Sunday before 15th August for VP/VJ Day (Victory in the Pacific/Victory Over Japan Day) which marked the end of the Second World War in the South-West Pacific in 1945.
This year's (2007) services are as follow: 65th Anniversary Fall of Singapore - Sunday 11th February 2007 Venue: Hamilton RSL Club, Tudor Street, Hamilton. Time: 11.00 am to 12.00 pm.
62nd Anniversary of VE Day - Sunday 6th May 2007 Venue: Hamilton RSL Club, Tudor Street, Hamilton. Time: 11.00 am to 12.00 pm.
62nd Anniversary of VJ Day - Sunday 12th August 2007 Venue: Hamilton RSL Club, Tudor Street, Hamilton. Time: 11.00 am to 12.00 pm.
This message board is also the place to ask questions in regard to World War Two service details of our prisoners of war and places of burial or commemoration details of those who died overseas.
So, if you have a question to ask or an item of interest to add, then this is the place to do it. This discussion and message board has been provided by David H Dial OAM, Honorary Historian to the Newcastle Ex-Prisoners of War Association as part of his on-going commitment to honor the servicemen and women of the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, Australia.
